Walter Littell Matthews III

Captain Walter L Matthews III (retired Navy) age 93 of Pensacola, went to be with his Lord and Savior on 20 January 2018. He was born 6 August 1924 in Scranton, PA to the late Frances and Walter L Matthews Jr. After graduation Walt joined the US Navy and became a pilot. He served proudly for 28 years. He then enjoyed a second career in banking as VP. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ann and his first wife Mary Anne.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Rita (Chase) Matthews, his brother John Matthews & wife Bonnie, his daughter Susan Vohnout & husband Bob, granddaughters Erika Thayer & husband Ben, Kathryn McGuirk & husband Michael, five great-grandchildren, step-sons Victor Evans & wife Kim, and Bubba Evans. It can be said of Walt that he was kind, honest, generous, and devoted to his family. He was respected by all who knew him and loved dearly by his family. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held Thursday 25 January at 11 am. Oak Lawn Funeral Home 619 N New Warrington Rd Pensacola, FL 32506 Memorial service and reception to follow at noon.
