

He was born in Princeton, Indiana and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended the old Louisville Public School System and remained a member of the duPont Manual High School Alumni Association until his death. After High School he attended the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in May 1952.
He entered the United States Air Force as an enlisted man in 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. While in the Air Force, he attended Squadron Officer School and Air Command and Staff College. He also received a Master's Degree in Public Health/Hospital Administration from Yale University in 1962 and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from George Washington University in 1967. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in January 1973.
After retiring from the Air Force, he returned to Louisville and was an agent for the State Farm Insurance Companies. He retired from State Farm in 1995. During his working life, he maintained his pharmacy certifications and continued to work part time as a pharmacist until 2002. He moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1998.
He was involved in the St. Matthews Kentucky Lions Club (Past President), the Kentucky Chapter of The Retired Officers' Association (Past President), Past Commander Louisville Kentucky Chapter Military Order of the World Wars, Wichita Kansas Chapter National Sojourners (Past President) and active in Pensacola Florida Chapter National Sojourners, Air Force Association, The Pensacola Historical Society and the Pensacola Heritage Foundation.
He was a member of Crescent Hill United Methodist Church in Louisville Kentucky for nearly 50 years, serving as Past Chairman of the Administrative Board and Board of Trustees. Upon moving to Pensacola, he was active in the First United Methodist Church on Wright Street.
In addition, he has been a Mason since 1963, a member of the Escambia Lodge #15 F&AM, Pensacola Scottish Rite, Hadji Temple, Luftbruecke Lodge #838 (Past Master) in Wiesbaden, Germany, and Past District Deputy American Canadian Grand Lodge, Germany.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth; son, Thomas; daughters, Mary, Anne and Susan; brother, Bob; grandchildren, Elisabeth, Linnea, Thomas, Kathryn, Angelina, Allison, Liam, Michael and Elena. In addition, he has 10 great grandchildren.
A private service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors.
