Thomas Edward Duffy, Jr., passed away February 12, 2013. Tom was born January 19, 1937 in Portland Maine, but Pensacola was his home for the past 35 years. In 1983, SCPO Duffy retired from the United Sates Navy after 22 years of loyal dedication to his country.
As a Navy man and coach, he led by example. He was a football coach for over 30 years and his “boys” called him Pop. They would visit often and tell him what a great influence he had on their lives and share the memories that they still carry. Pop loved the feel of the grass under his cleats, the roar of the crowd and the enthusiasm his players brought to the field. He used the gridiron as a tool to teach the many lessons they would need later on in life.
As a husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather he knew the true meaning of unconditional love and compassion. He truly had a heart of gold. He left behind a worthy legacy and his presence will be terribly missed.
The family will receive friends at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Rd Thursday, February 14th, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 15, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. He was predeceased by both his parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Duffy Sr. and the mother of his children, Mary Frances Duffy. His surviving family includes: his wife, Sarah L. Duffy; 2 sons, Michael (Gina), Thomas (Jana); 2 daughters, Deborah (David), Theresa; 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made, in his memory to the Wounded Warriors Project. Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
