The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ opened the gates for Salvatore J. Cottone (Sal) of Pensacola, Florida on October 19, 2022 to begin his eternal life. Sal was born on September 25, 1938 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His parents were Salvatore and Josephine Cottone. He was the youngest of five children; his sister Pearle and brothers Vincent, Joseph and Peter have all predeceased him.
Sal enlisted in the US Navy in February 1957 and served his country honorably for 5 years, spending the majority of his time on the U.S.S. Saratoga. Following his Navy service, Sal attended and graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor's degree with high honors in Business in June 1966. He went to work for the General Electric Company immediately after graduation in the Finance Department and retired after 27 years with the company.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janice Cottone and his four children, daughter Dawn Maynard, son Salvatore Cottone, daughter Kimberly Cottone and daughter Michelle Leslie. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Ryan, Stephanie and Kale.
Sal was a loving husband and father and a proud grandfather. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and volunteering at the Pensacola Naval Museum. Sal was a member of the BPOE Elks #2108, the American Legion and the AmVets Post #292. He will be deeply missed and will always be in our hearts.
Sal will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 1:30 pm. Those who wish to attend should arrive by 12:45 pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola, FL 32506 to be escorted to the cemetery. A reception will follow the interment.
