Rose Virginia “Ginny” Willis, 94, passed away peacefully in her home January 28, 2019. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 27, 1924. As a young woman, she enlisted in the Navy as a Wave in 1945. She served for eighteen months in New York City where she helped make sure mail was properly routed to active duty soldiers.
By the time her youngest daughter was in college, she began attending classes at Pensacola Junior College and earned her Associates’ Degree. Ginny also sang in the choir at Perdido Bay Methodist Church. She loved camping and canoeing and for many years, she was an active member of the Pensacola Sierra Club and Canoe Club. An avid game player, she was a valued asset to many Bridge Clubs.
She also enjoyed traveling and relished the opportunity to explore new places across the United States as well as around the world.
She is survived by her four daughters, Kathryn D. Willis of New York City; Darleen Steimel and her husband Larry, of Pensacola; Teresa Malloy and her husband Dennis of Gulf Breeze; and Jenny Hamilton and her husband Mike, of Spanish Fort.; her four grandchildren Shannon Brand, Joshua Brian Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton, Nick Malloy and great-grandchild Ethan Brand.
Visitation will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home from 12:00-12:30 pm, Monday, February 4th, with funeral services beginning at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida, 105 North S Street, Pensacola Florida or to Anjellicle Cats Rescue at anjelliclecats@yahoo.com.
