Ronald E. Schmitt passed away on September 15, 2017. Ron was born on July 11, 1937, to William and Alice Schmitt. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, William W. Schmitt, his sister, Joan Sheally, and his son, William E. Schmitt. Ron is survived by his daughter, Katherine Milstid, grandson, William Milstid (Lauren), Former Wife, Alice Schmitt, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends. He was born in Queens, New York and after living in several areas growing up, he arrived in Pensacola in 1957 and made it his home. During his lifetime, Ron was in the member of the 8th Field Artillery Regiment during the Korean War, made his career as a draftsman with Chemstrand/Monsanto, backpacked across Europe, ran in marathons, and was an avid motorcycle rider. Ron was involved with the Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriners, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Krewe of Lafitte, Krewe of Wrecks, and the Pensacola Beach Boat Club. Always one with a smile and a joke, he will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, September 25, 2017 with a visitation from 10-11 am at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. An interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 1 pm. Oak Lawn Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
