Ron was born in Lowell, Massachusetts to George and Juliette Fontaine on November 21, 1938. Immediately after high school, Ron joined the Army and was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne. While on leave, he saw Nell at a drive-in and told his buddies that he was going to marry her. Ron was true to his word and married Wynell Hall Fontaine on June 6th, 1958. They had four children, one daughter and three sons. Ron was a loving father and treasured time with his family, enjoying coaching his kids’ baseball, football, and basketball teams.
Family was incredibly important to Ron and he was blessed to experience the joy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He made holidays memorable events, establishing lasting traditions including all the family going to Easter mass together, playing the first Christmas song during the clean-up of Thanksgiving dinner, dirty Santa at Christmas, and giving stockings that had silly toys and games in them.
After retiring, Ron and Nell moved to Navarre where he found a second home at St. Sylvester Catholic church. He was active in the church, helping plan multiple activities and is proud to be a Knight of Columbus.
His family includes his loving wife of 61 years, Wynell Fontaine, of Navarre, FL; his daughter Belinda (Fontaine) Blythe of Huntsville, AL; his son George Fontaine (deceased) of Huntsville, AL; his son Paul Fontaine of Huntsville, AL; his son Ken Fontaine of Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his brother George Robert Fontaine, and his parents George Moise Fontaine and Juliette Goulet Fontaine.
In addition to his family and church, Ron took pride in being from New England and stayed true to his roots remaining a faithful Patriots fan – go patriots.
Viewing and service will be held at St. Sylvester Catholic church on Saturday, November 2nd. Viewing will begin at 10am, service will be at 11am. Graveside service and interment will be at 3:30pm at Pinecrest Cemetery in Marianna, Florida.
