Peggy Ann Markley Fritz, 93, of Pensacola, Florida passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2022. Peggy was born Easter Sunday, March 31, 1929 in Uniontown, PA to Ethel Klosterman Markley and Ulysses Earl Markley. The family moved to Altoona, PA when Peggy was two and lived there until 1952. Peggy graduated from Altoona High School in 1947. She worked at the Philadelphia Drug Store as a beauty consultant and cosmetic buyer, had a newspaper column “Peggy Says” and a radio show “Feminine and Fashionable”
Peggy Married Franklyn Robert Fritz on December 27, 1950. They lived in State College, PA until “Fritz” graduated in August 1951 and his first job took them to Pittsburgh, PA where they lived until December 1954 when they moved to Pensacola, FL.
Peggy was part owner of Fran and Peg dress shop in Warrington, 1960 – 1962, and Fashion Coordinator for Gayfer’s Department Store 1966 – 1972. She became a Red Cross Volunteer at Baptist Hospital in 1973 where she would volunteer for 30 years. She was Chairwoman of Volunteers serving on the Advisory Board for 25 years. In 1984 she became Vice President of the Baptist Hospital Woman’s Board serving two years, and President for two years. Her work at Baptist included ER, Family Room, Information Desk and Gift Shop. In 1978 Peggy was finalist for the Volunteer Pensacola Award and in 2005 Peggy was presented the Hollinger Award from the Woman’s Board at Baptist Hospital.
Peggy was a lifelong Republican and a member of the Escambia County Republican Women, serving on the Escambia Republican Committee for 16 years and working at the polls for 18 years. Her community activities included the League of Woman Voters where she served on the board of Directors 1966 – 1977 and Governor Askew’s Commission on Criminal Justice Standards and Goals Committee in 1975. She served on the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce Gulf Wind Task Force to bring Amtrak Passenger Service to Pensacola in 1975 and on the board of Directors for Junior Miss Pageant 1972-74. Peggy was a member of Phi Master Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority which she joined in 1948 and where she earned all her degrees. She was a chairwoman for two vaudeville show fundraisers for the first restoration of the Seanger Theater 1976 – 78.
Peggy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Earl Markley; sister, Salle Robertson and her son, Robert Daryl Fritz.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Franklyn Fritz; sons, Blaine Allan (Susan) of Reston, VA/Gulf Breeze, FL and Mark Aaron of Pensacola; grandchildren, Desiree Marie (Cody) White of Jacksonville, FL, Trevor Aaron (Judi) Fritz of Pensacola, FL, Sue Ann (Chad) Pope of New Port Richey, FL and Stacy Long of Chantilly, VA; great-grandchildren, Ava Marie White, Harper Marie Fritz, Sawyer Jade Caldwell and Bailey Lauren Taranto; brother, James Thomas (Mary) Markley of Winchester, VA and brother-in-law, Rodger Lee (Daisyanna) Fritz of Endicott, NY; nieces and nephews, Beth Robertson, Timothy (Bridget) Markley, Daniel (Allison) Markley, Dianna Buckreis and Jason (Kaija) Fritz.
Beta Sigma Phi Service will held at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
A Visitation will be at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will start at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
Active and Honorary Pallbearers will be Trevor Fritz, Ed McCloskey, Chad Pope, Tim Markley, Dan Markley, Cody White, Everett Lockman, Madison Lockman and Reese Webb.
