1936 - 2011
Leesburg, Florida
Our beloved husband/father, Paul Estes Beck, age 75, joined his heavenly family on Saturday, October 22. It was his wish that we celebrate his life and even more importantly, to celebrate each other at this time. He wanted us to thank all of his friends, neighbors, coworker, camping buddies, and church families that have been part of his life which contributed so much joy and love in his life.
Paul is the son of Julian and Gertrude Beck, lifelong residence of Pensacola now deceased. He had one very special sister, Roselyn Sclease (deceased) and 3 wonderful brothers, Carl Beck (deceased), Durwood Beck/ Windred (Huntsville, AL) and Johnny Beck/Jackie (Pensacola, FL). He married Doris McNeal (deceased) in 1954 sharing the love of four loving children: Kay Gabler/Randy (Virginia Beach, VA), Paul Lamar Beck/Lynette (Topeka, KS), Robert Earl Beck (San Jose, CA) and John Durwood Beck (deceased).
Paul was lucky enough to find love a second time and married Mildred Manry Fountain in December of 1967. He opened his heart to four more children he considered his own: Carlton William Fountain/Martha (Houston, TX), Delores Forringer/Bob (Leesburg, FL), Charlotte Hooks/Tommy (Gulf Breeze, FL), Sara Smith/Larry (Pensacola, FL). He had many fond memories of his 16 grand children and 14 great grand children.
He grew up in Pensacola, Florida. He had the most wonderful giving spirit. As a young man he wanted to be around his brothers and that meant working on the family's car. Plus it always gave him the opportunity to play practical jokes on his brothers. He worked in construction a little and loved to cook. He loved his country very much and joined the Army in 1953 servicing 26 ? years as an Aircraft Maintenance Senior Sergeant and Administrative Specialist. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, with the most note worth being the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters and Army Commendation Medal. Through his military career he earned the Master Aircraft Crewman Badge and Parachutist Badge. His attention to detail was legendary. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 5 pm to 7pm at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. Graveside services will be Friday, October 28, 2011 at 9:30 am at the Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station. The procession will depart Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel at 9:00 a.m.
