Mr. Henk was born March 26th, 1930, in New Braunfels, Texas to Willie R. Henk and Lena B. (Bienek) Henk as the second of seven children.
He attended San Marcos High School and joined the United States Army at age 19 and served in Korea in 1950-1951 during the Korean War as an infantryman. He also served for two tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War as a helicopter technician. During his distinguished military career he was awarded the National defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, Korean Service Medal and Bronze Star, and United Nations Service Medal.
While stationed in Neu Ulm, Germany, Mr. Henk met his wife, Liselotte “Lisa” Sauer. They married January 17th, 1959 in Neu Ulm. After retiring from the Army, Mr. Henk worked for Burnside-Ott as a helicopter technician. He also drove for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in his later years.
He had been a resident of Pensacola for over 40 years, after moving from Mineral Wells, Texas in 1972.
He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, and was a casual blackjack and poker player, often travelling to Biloxi, MS for trips with his wife and friends.
He is survived by his wife Lisa,; daughter Bonnie Blanton and son-in-law Troy Blanton, of Gulf Breeze, FL; son Steve Henk and daughter-in-law Lyle Henk of Pensacola, FL; son Oran Henk of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren Lindsay Blanton, Sean Herring, and Ashley Henk of Pensacola, FL; great granddaughter Trinnity Blanton; brother Eugene Henk, of Bradenton, FL; brother Ernest Henk, of Geronimo, TX; sister Alice Ewald, of Kyle, TX; and sister Grace Pape, of Marion, TX.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Wilfred and Nelson Henk.
The family would like to express their gratitude to 6 North nursing staff at West Florida Hospital, Gentiva Home Health Care, and Emerald Coast Hospice for the excellent care given to Mr. Henk in recent times.
