Michael E. Cox

Michael Edwin Cox, 66, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022. He was born to Edwin Burns Cox and Betty Eggart Cox on October 4, 1955, in Pensacola, Florida. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Sharon McKinney Cox, and children Vernon Aaron Cox (Amanda), Sarah Miranda Cox, Leah Danielle Cox, Dustin Michael Cox, Shianne Cox Elliot (Jonny), Travis Snellgrove (Wendi), Tristan Snellgrove (Amy), grandchildren Arianna Gignilliat, Amelia VanDusen, Mylo Cox, Elaina Wilson, Charlotte Newman, Jonathan Elliot III, Winter Elliot, Cavan Blocker, and great grandchild Tansley Blocker. He is also survived by sisters Brenda Cox Potmesil (Gary), Crystal Cox (Gail), brother-in-law Mike McKinney (Vicki), and nieces Ginger Potmesil Jankowski (Walt), Leslie Potmesil Saam (Max), Amy Potmesil, and Mother-in-Law Barbara Ann McKinney, as well as great-niece and nephews Kyle Jankowski, Ashley Jankowski, Henry Saam, Connor Saam and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Burns Cox, mother, Betty Eggart Cox and daughter Rhianna Michelle Cox; grandson, Travis Cole Snellgrove and father-in-law, Willie Frank McKinney.

Pallbearers are Gary Potmesil, Matt Froom, Ronnie Andrews, Steve Duncan, Dustin Cox and Jonny Elliot. Honorary Pallbearer is Vernon Cox.

Mike was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, having cookouts, watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Bucs. Everyone that knew Mike respected and loved him for his sense of humor, gift for storytelling, and his exceptional wisdom. He was a gifted guitar player, and his love of music was a huge influence on those closest to him and inspired so many of us.

Mike retired last year from Madsen Knepper and Associates, after a rewarding and fulfilling career as a district manager overseeing many high-level projects as a construction engineer, leading teams through multiple disasters all over the country. He brought many levels of expertise to his projects and passed his knowledge on to many of his coworkers throughout his career.

Mike spent his final days surrounded by all his family and loved ones, with special thanks to lifelong friends Ronnie Andrews and Steve Duncan.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Matthew Daniels, Alicia Watson and many other Sacred Heart physicians, Covenant Care Hospice nurses and many others for their time and care.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Bayview Memorial Park.
