Melba Gray Richards

Melba Gray Peevy Richards, 96 was born in Red Level, Alabama on October 29, 1923 to the late Dewey Miles and Lillie Mae Lord Peevy. Melba entered into the presence of Jesus on April 17, 2020 at Bay Breeze Senior Living and Retirement, Gulf Breeze, Florida.

Her dearest accomplishments were her boys! During Melba’s younger years she loved singing Gospel Music and traveling with gospel groups to churches and tent revivals. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul… some people say it, Melba lived it. She worked at Monsanto as a Beamer Operator; keeping the rolls of twine running in place to make synthetic thread. In Melba’s earlier years, she loved to travel with her sisters. Reading books and playing the guitar were some of her favorite past times. In the beginning years at Bay Breeze, the C.N.A.’s would come to her and she would teach a bible study. Melba will be remembered for her caring and loving sprit. Some people didn’t even know her real name and everybody always called her “Mom”.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband; Ernest (Junior) Richards, and two sons: Gary and Jimmy (Jim) Richards.

Left to cherish Melba’s beautiful memories will be her daughter-in-law; Lavada Richards-Hammock and husband Mike Hammock, Tony and Jack Silcox, LaShaun Daily and her team at Bay Breeze Senior Living and Retirement, along with many wonderful friends.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude towards LaShaun Daily and her staff at Bay Breeze Senior Living and Retirement for the love and care they provided Mom for the past eleven years. A special thank you to LaShaun, from remembering Mom’s first day and being there with her until the end of her journey.

A future event will be scheduled due to COVID-19, once we are able to safely and gather announcements will be made as to dates for a Celebration of Life service for Melba.
