Mary-Lou Zimmerman, retired Lt. Col. In the Armed Forces, and retired educator of Computer Science at Pensacola State College, age 83, went home to be with the Lord, on December 12, 2023. She is survived by the love of her life, Reggie, an 11-year-old white golden doodle and her best friend of 28 years Diane Ward.
She was born in New York and lived in New York City. She received her MBA from Rutgers University. Her military service included overseas assignments as well as extensive travel in the United States. She received several commendation medals during her military career and was selected to attend a Course at Command General Staff College.
Mary-Lou developed the first online Introduction to Computer course and online Spreadsheet course at Pensacola State College.
She loved flowers and had a beautiful garden with many blooming flowers, fruit trees, and a variety of shrubs she had planted. Golf was a sport she loved and patiently taught her friend to play. Mary-Lou never married, but she was close to her friend’s grandchildren and let them ride in the golf cart with her. She was a dear friend to many and arranged luncheons for retired educators. She was helpful in serving at the Pensacola Christian Women’s Connection luncheons. She was a member of the Gulf Breeze Area Historical Society. She contributed to numerous charities--especially those involving animals and the environment.
