Mary Blanton Hawkins, age 94, passed away November 17, 2023, in Pensacola, Florida. She was the widow of Joe Edward Hawkins and will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery in a private family service.
Mary was born in Gaffney, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Lewis and Estelle Blanton.
Mary was an Angel in the flesh sent here to care for so many children. She spent approximately 38 years caring for the children of many families at McElwain Presbyterian Church. She has left footprints on the hearts of so many special families. This brought true joy to her life, especially caring for her own children and grandchildren , and wanted to take care of her newest addition, great, great grandson, Milo.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Joe Edward Hawkins, her son Wayne Edward Hawkins, brother Felix Blanton and sisters Ruth Floyd and Joyce Intorelli.
Mary leaves to cherish her loving memory, her daughter Deborah (Jacob) Knight, five grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Hausner, Valerie Knight, Jacob (Bridgette) Knight, Austin Hawkins, and Curtis Hawkins. Five great grandchildren, Emily (David) DoCarmo, Alyson Hausner, Jayden Knight, Gavin Knight, Noelle El Zenny and a great, great grandson Milo DoCarmo and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary was full of life and always thinking of others first. She was Maw Maw to everyone. Her true gift and joy in life has always been caring for children. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and cooking. She is best known for her biscuits and homemade jam, and sweet potato casserole. Holidays were never complete without our Maw Maw in the kitchen and tucking her grandchildren into bed while Santa worked his magic.
She was always up for any adventure or road trip anyone wanted to take her on. You can bet you would be pulling over for her to pinch off a bud, root or branch she could take home. Her extraordinary green thumb multiplied anything she touched.
The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses, aids, Trudy, and Christine from Regency/Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care and support the last four years.
In remembrance of Mary Hawkin's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Gentiva Hospice.
