Martin Sandy DoriaLt/Colonel Martin (Marty) Sandy Doria (USAF) RET)Lt/Colonel Martin S Doria passed away on January 3, 2016. Martin also known as Marty was born in Scranton, PA and was the son of Mr. Santo D'Oria and Grace Pioppo D'Oria both from Scranton. Marty attended public schools in the Scranton area including Public School number 30, South Scranton Junior High School and Technical High School. He was awarded an early diploma from Tech High by his enlistment in the Navy during World War II at age 17.Marty served aboard the escort aircraft carrier USS ATTU CVE 102, operating in the Asiatic South Pacific. Upon completing naval service, Marty attended the University of Scranton graduating in 1950. He then worked on the U.S. Border Patrol at El Paso and Laredo Texas where he engaged in several operations involving incursions to the U.S. by illegal aliens,After the Korean War began, Marty enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. while waiting attendance at the Air Force Officer's Candidate School. Marty was commissioned as second lieutenant in 1952 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He was then assigned to Photo/Radar intelligence duties at Lawry Air Force Base, Colorado and Forbes Air Force Base, Kansas. He attended flight school at Marianna Air Station Florida and then Kimpo Air Station (Kl4) in Korea.When his unit transferred to Itami Air Base, Japan, Marty was assigned duties as Base Provost Marshal and continued in Security and Law Enforcement assignments at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas and Shu Linkou Air Station, Taiwan. Upon returning to the United States, he was assigned as Commander of Air Force recruiting activities in the States of Oregon and Washington and later in the States of Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada.Marty was awarded two Air Force Commendation Medals and the Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal as well as The Nationalist Chinese Police Medal and several campaign ribbons. Upon rnedical retirement from the Air Force, Marty matriculated at the University of Scranton and the University of West Florida. He was awarded his Master's Degree from Scranton in the mental health counseling field. While employed by the Lackawanna County Welfare Services in 1971 at Scranton, PA., he managed formulation of the Community Coordinated Child Care program. Later he completed a dissertation for his PhD in 1978. Marty engaged in Family Counseling at the Escambia County Alcohol Counseling Program, The Friary of Gulf Breeze, FL, Catholic Social Services of Pensacola, St Paul Catholic Church of Pensacola. He retired in 2004, devoting himself to family matters. He is a life member of The Military Officer's Association, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Disabled Veteran's Association and The Air Force Association. He was authored and published several books including: The diagnostic Feedback Contingency Model Of Supervision, The Time Travel Adventures of Oomog the Apeman, The Fungido Journals, Search for the Deciever, Rambling Collection of Murder Myth Musing and Capers, Aliens Wormholes and Friends.Marty was predeceased by his angelic wife of 56 years, Ruby Lemmons Doria, his sons; Michael Doria and David Doria, sister; Amelia Doria and Parents Santo and Grace D'Oria. He is survived by his current wife Nella, sons; Richard (wife Risa), Andrew (wife Debra) loving grandchildren; Nicholas Doria, Jacy Doria and special grandchild Sarah Doria..Visitation to be Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 5-7:00 pm at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
