Margaret Virginia Johnson Poppell, 89 wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and volunteer extraordinaire passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2014. Margaret taught Business Education at Escambia High School for 33 years. She continued to follow her passion for teaching and helping others through various organizations in Escambia County including: Learn to Read Northwest Florida, First Book, Escambia County Retired Educators, Council on Aging, Guardian Ad Litem and many others.She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Carey Poppell. She is survived by her three children, Brenda Gonzalez (Hank), Ronald Poppell (Bettina Perez) and Jack Poppell (Torsten) and two granddaughters, Jordan Gonzalez and Miranda Gonzalez. A visitation with reception will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home on Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 2pm to 4pm. The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 10:15am.
