A baby boy was born on October 11, 1948, the first of 5 sons of Loel H. Schoonover and Mary Louise Boswell. They named him Loel Merlin Schoonover. His first brother, James Timothy Schoonover, was born 11 months later followed by Roger Dee Schoonover, Edward Theodore Schoonover, and Steven Forest Schoonover who has pre-deceased him.
Loel grew up with his brothers where great adventures ensued in the high desert around Benton, California.
From California he enlisted in the United States Army to be trained as a Petroleum Analysis Chemist. He was deployed to Vietnam where unfortunately, he was exposed to agent orange which contributed to his death on April 30th, 2020.
After an honorable discharge, he went to college and worked in several occupations until he came to Devereux where he stayed for over 20 years working to take care of the physically and mentally handicapped.
During the intervening years, he became the beloved uncle to Sonja S. Bennett, William L. Speare, Tiffany A. Gustte, Bonnie M. Brown, Troy S. Schoonover and Timothy J. Schoonover. He was also happy to personally know even a part of his great nieces and nephews, Sydney Brown, Savannah Brown, Sierra Brown, Troy G. Schoonover, Reagan M. Schoonover, Elyse C. Schoonover, and Thomas J. Schoonover.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kindness and love for his family, and for those who needed his care to overcome their challenges in life.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and has gone home to the God of us all.
