Leon passed away November 3rd, 2024 in his sleep with friends and family by his side. He was peaceful. He is survived by his sister-in-law; Nancy Birks, sisters; Louise Taylor (Bon Secour, AL), Cheryl Anne Smith Mayberry (Foley, AL), Renee (Nicholas) Brewton (Arley, AL), brothers; Paul (Lin) Mayberry (Atlanta, GA); Jeff (Cori Grantham) Mayberry (Tucson, AZ); niece; Beth (Donald) Taylor (Foley, AL) and many other family members, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Leon enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, yard work and just being outside. He retired from the Air Force and Air National Guard and Housing Urban Development (Government) in Denver, CO and Nashville, TN to return home to be with family and friends. He was a strong member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Gulf Breeze, FL and held several positions which some are Treasurer, Usher, Deacon and many other things that needed to be attended to such as heading up Golf Tournaments, Fish Fry's for church and the communities in the area. Leon was also manager of setting up the golf tournaments at the Osceola Golf Course in Pensacola, FL and managing the treasurer position following the tournaments.
We will have a Celebration of Life Service at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel located at 3351 Scenic Highway, Pensacola, FL on December 7, 2024 at 2:00 pm with a Committal Service at the gravesite following the service. Leon's service will be led by Reverend Thack Dyson of St Paul's Episcopal Church in Daphne, AL. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor Leon's memory, donations may be sent to St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 1 St. Francis Drive, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561 or donations to Vitas Health Care (Hospice) at 1230 Creighton Road, Pensacola, FL 32504.
