Our beloved mom, Kyong Cha Martin, sadly passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the age of 79. She was a cherished wife, devoted mother, adoring grandmother, great grandmother, and a faithful friend to all the residents at University Pines.
Born on July 7, 1945, in Chungwon—gun Chunk Puk, South Korea, Kyong was an amazing woman whose life was defined by grace, resilience, and boundless generosity. Known for her countless acts of selflessness, unwavering devotion to her family, and legendary culinary skills, Kyong lived each day with quiet strength and a servant’s heart.
Her love for her family was an absolute! Whether through her nurturing spirit and selflessness, Kyong made it her life’s purpose to care for those she loved. She was always ready to help, to comfort, and to give, without ever asking for anything in return.
A woman of deep and enduring faith, Kyong was a devout Christian who found immense comfort in prayer. She prayed often, and she prayed boldly. Her spiritual life was the foundation of her strength, especially during her courageous battle with cancer, which she faced with grace and dignity.
Kyong’s legacy is one of unconditional love, sacrificial service, joyful generosity, and she had the kind of courage that inspires others to be better. Her spirit will be forever cherished.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathie Sherrell, and son-in-law, Bob Sherrell; her son Allen Martin, and daughter-in-law, Noelle Martin; and her treasured grandchildren, Kyle (and his wife Kaylen), Branden (and his fiancé Julia), Kayla (and husband Hunter), A.J., Josh, and Derek, and great grandchildren, Kenzleigh and Kaileigh. She is also survived by several relatives in South Korea and is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Martin.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel located at 3351 Scenic Highway. A committal service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m., 1 Cemetery Road, Naval Air Station, Pensacola. Allen and Kathie invite you to join them at Five Sisters immediately after to share cherished memories and a meal, starting at 12:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Kyong’s memory to Fore Her, a 501(c)(3) non-profit supporting women in Northwest Florida courageously fighting breast cancer.
