

Kirk M. Young Jr. died August 6, 2023 at home. He was born in Pensacola to the late Catherine and Kirk Young in a family of military professionals many of whom are buried in Barrancas National Cemetery. Upon graduation from Pensacola High School in 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he remained for 26 years until his retirement in 1972. Rising through the ranks in 14 years to Master Chief Petty Officer and then commissioned Ensign, Supply Corps he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. With many duty assignments afloat and ashore he served in Pensacola as Financial Affairs Officer on CNATRA Staff and as Disbursing Officer, NAS, Pensacola. The best year of his life, he said, was spent in Vietnam in 1970 where he was Budget Officer, MACV, Headquarters, Saigon. His most interesting assignment was Supply Advisor to the Iranian Navy while on the staff of ARMISH-MAAG, Iran. His favorite shipboard assignments were U.S.S. Astoria CL-90, U.S.S. Cabot CVL-28, U.S.S. Northampton CC-1, and U.S.S. Orion AS-18.
Survivors are Michelle Kathryn Alexander and husband, William of Pensacola, Cynthia Glynn Fox and husband, Eric of Skokie, Illinois, Kirk M. Young III, Lieutenant, USN (Ret) and wife Midori of Pensacola, Thomas W. Young AMS1, USN (Ret) and wife Merlinda of Pensacola, and Penelope L. Young of Pensacola, Florida and nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Visitation with Rosary will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at St. John's Catholic Church from 9:30am to 10:30am and Graveside Service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery from 11:00am to 11:30am.
