Julian L. Azorlosa III

Julian (Jay) L. Azorlosa III, age 71, of Downingtown, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023. Jay earned his PhD. in Psychology and contributed numerous findings to his field during his time as a Professor and Faculty Researcher. Having worked at Southeastern Louisiana University and the NIH, he went on to spend most of his career at West Chester University before retiring in 2019. As Jay often said, “I paid my dues.”

In his younger years, Jay was a Boy Scout and often shared memories about the rugged camping and hiking trips he enjoyed with friends. As a young adult he successfully hitchhiked across the US twice and gained many stories along the way. Jay stayed active throughout the years with numerous tennis matches and teaching his kids various sports after school and during the weekends. Most recently, Jay continued to pursue his passion for the outdoors with multiple excursions of hiking and camping along the Appalachian trail. In addition to his various adventures, he was an avid reader of sci-fi novels and even wrote several short stories of his own. He loved to share his passion for music, movies, and reading with others.

Jay was married to Elaine A. Azorlosa (Dedman) for 25 years before her passing in 2006. He is survived by his 2 children, Jillian E. Azorlosa and Phillip C. Azorlosa (Jessica Buchser); his sister, Janet A. Chambers (the late Blake);“ lifelong friend Howard Edelman; companion Karlene Noble; sister-in-law Elizabeth A. Skinner (Charlie)"; brother-in-law David W. Dedman (Linda); sister-in-law Nancy J. Lennon (the late Ron); and sister-in-law Diane E. Brittingham (Kurt); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Julian L. Azorlosa II, mother Janet L Azorlosa (Merring), as well as several other family members and friends.

A memorial service and interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE to follow at a later date.
