Our beloved Juanita passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at home in Pensacola surrounded by her family and friends. She was 91 years old. Juanita was a loving wife, mother, sister, and the perfect lady whose memory will never die in our hearts.
Juanita was born in Hawthorne, Florida in 1925 to the late George and Addie Johnson. She attended schools in Hawthorne and met her late husband, Ray Mast, while he was in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force they spent their service time in Ohio, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California and Florida. After leaving the Air Force, Ray and Juanita and children moved to Eureka, CA where he worked for Brizard-Matthews Machinery Co. for 25 years as their Advertising Manager. He served as city councilman from 1969-1973. He and Juanita were actively involved in the Humboldt County Republican Central Committee during the 1960’s (working to get Ronald Reagan elected Governor). Juanita was actively involved in the international women’s sororiety, Beta Sigma Phi since 1968 (and in Pensacola, Laureate Gamma Sigma). She had many friends and will be greatly missed.
Ray and Juanita moved to Pensacola in 1978, where she worked in a medical office in the 1980’s before retiring. Juanita loved her family and friends, gardening, reading, BINGO, Golf, Barbra Steisand, shopping, bridge, and doing the crossword puzzle each morning.
She was preceded in death by her parents Addie and George Johnson of Hawthorne, FL; sisters Bee, Rosilee, Letha Mae, Dot; brothers, Gene, Willie, Bill, James; and husband of 62 years, Ray.
Juanita is survived by her three sons Richard and Larry of Pensacola; Steve (Donna) of Eugene, Oregon; two daughters Toni (Michael) Cullen and Janice Bozant of Pensacola; four grandchildren - Casey (Nathan) Wallner and Adam Mast (Lisa), and Hannah and Rachel Bozant; one great grandchild, Nova; sister Maude Motes of Jacksonville, Florida; and various nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Susan at Home Instead Senior Care, and friends from Covenant Care, Liz, Minnie, nurses and staff, who helped care for Juanita.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 from 2-4pm at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Hwy, Pensacola, Florida 32503.
