Joseph Peter Savoia, 84, of Pensacola, FL, formerly of Quincy and Pembroke, Massachusetts. Devoted husband of Sara (Sally) Wall Savoia. Cherished father of Cmdr. Lee Savoia-McHugh, Medical Corps, USN and her husband Capt. John Savoia-McHugh, Medical Corps, USN, Ret. of Pensacola, FL; Kimberly Shouse and husband Jeffrey of Vienna, Virginia; Lynn Savoia of Medford, Massachusetts; Kara McCormic and husband Keith of Greenfield, Massachusetts; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Son of the late Joseph and Irma (Brun) Savoia. Brother of Aurora Melzar, Alba McGuiggan, and the late Enzo, Dante, and Albert Savoia.
Mr. Savoia is a 1951 graduate of Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, Maine, earned his Masters in Education from Boston University, and postgraduate work at Brown, Allegheny, and Tufts Universities. He enlisted in WWII, serving as a gunner on B29s in the Pacific Theatre. He taught mathematics and science classes in Weymouth, MA, Public Schools for 35 years, also serving as football coach. He was a real estate broker in Massachusetts for 25 years.
Visitation is at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 North New Warrington Road, Pensacola, on Thursday, June 10, from 6-8pm. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Saufley Field Road, Pensacola, Friday, June 11, at 10:30am, followed by internment at Barrancas National Cemetery.
