John Duane Maxwell, peacefully passed to be with the Lord, Monday, September 18, 2023. John was born April 12, 1926, in Oneida, New York. John is the son of the late Theodore Roosevelt Maxwell and Louise Rossmen Maxwell.
John is predeceased by his brother, William D. Maxwell; sister, May L. Morgan; son, John Scott Duane Maxwell; and his wife, Margaret Ray Seitz Maxwell.
John leaves behind his three daughters: Debra Lee Maxwell Verrastro of Navarre, Florida; Pamela Ann Buesser of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and his adopted daughter, Leah Dorothy Ann Maxwell of Danbury, Connecticut; two stepsons: John Seitz and James Seitz; as well as their children and grandchildren. John is also survived by six grandchildren: Candy Ann Sutay of Woodbury, Connecticut; Patricia Pinard and husband, Robert Pinard, of Navarre, Florida; Hope D. Linberg and husband, Donald A. Lindberg, of Supply, North Carolina; Richard Szabo of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Jamie Szabo of Southbury, Connecticut; and Lorraine VanHouten Maxwell of Danbury, Connecticut; eleven Great-grandchildren: Katrina Ambher Delija of Tampa, Florida; John Scott Delija of Derby, Connecticut; Colton James Dufor of Watertown Connecticut; Jazmin A. Hill of Winstead, Connecticut; Jamie C. Hill of Charlotte, North Carolina; Brianna R. Lindberg of Woodbury, Connecticut; Jordan M. Fell and wife, Hailey Fell of Pensacola, Florida; Garrett M. Fell of Navarre, Florida; Marie VanHouten Maxwell of Danbury, Connecticut; Ski Szabo of Middlebury, Connecticut; and Kala Szabo of Middlebury, Connecticut; two Great great-granddaughters: Grace Marie Hill of Supply, North Carolina and Kinsley Rose Fell of Pensacola, Florida; and many other nieces and nephews.
John was loved by all.
John's daughter, Debra, is having a Celebration of Life ceremony at their home located at 8240 Lucena Street, Navarre, Florida, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. All are welcome.
John's ashes are to be buried in the late spring of 2024 at Glenwood Cemetery in Oneida, New York.
John Maxwell left a legacy of big hugs of love and smiles that will forever warm our heart and a possessed a powerful love for God that will be everlasting.
John honorably served his country during World War II in the USAAF as an Aerial Gunner from 1943-1945. He was a graduate of Oneida High School. In 1948, after the military, he earned his college degree in business, Architectural Design and Mechanical Drawing. He was employed as an Airline Station Agent until 1953, Carpenter and Union Heavy Construction until 1965, House Builder and Contractor until 1975, and then Real Estate Appraiser until 1988 when he retired in Ellenton, Florida.
John participated in Red Cross Disaster relief, Meals-On-Wheels, and delivered Holy Communion to shut ins while living in Ellenton.
John enjoyed golf, tennis, singing, dancing, roller-skating, sailing, woodworking, and was passionate about Environmental Conservation.
John will be terribly missed by all that knew him.
