John "Dave" David Matthews

Dave was an All-State Guard at Luvern High School, he played football and basketball for the Marion Military Institute and graduated from Troy State University with a B.S. Degree in Business. He served in the United States Air Force. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed traveling to Auburn, AL with his friends to watch football. He enjoyed playing golf in his younger years and was an excellent cook. Dave joined Traveler’s Insurance Company in 1961 and later moved to Pensacola Beach, FL in the early 70’s and bought Harvey’s Supply and owned and operated it until his retirement. He was Methodist by faith and belonged to the Elks Club.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Daniel Matthews; his sons, James D. Matthews II of Pensacola, FL and John “Scott” Matthews and wife, Joan D. Matthews of Fleming Island, FL; his grandchildren, Sean Thomas Riffenburg, David Keith Matthews, Ray Clark Matthews, Ashley Rose Mena and Brandon Scott Matthews; his great grandchildren, Shelby Paige Riffenburg and Bethany Kate Riffenburg; his sister, Rona Roberts of Hoover, AL; and many friends and business acquaintances.

A Celebration of Life will be Monday, May 16, 2016 at 5 PM at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 PM until the service hour.
