Johnny was one of 5 boys, born to George and Winnie Markham. He attended Pensacola High School, class of 1966. After high school he attended Gulf Coast Junior College in Panama City, Florida, where he played baseball. This is where he met the love of his life, Nancy. Set up on a blind date and after 5 months of dating, they were married and celebrated 55 years of love and marriage on August 17, 2023. After college, Johnny and Nancy returned to Pensacola to help run the family business, Markham and Sons sign company.
Johnny had many passions in life; he played in a men's softball league in Pensacola for close to 20 years and developed lifelong friendships. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was always eager to share his knowledge and love of nature with anyone who was interested. Pops always loved to play golf. He had a great group of golf buddies, and he would always find a way to be on the golf course. As many know, his greatest passion was baseball. While he loved playing the game, no one can deny he loved coaching more. Johnny coached the youth of Pensacola through various little league and high school teams. He always considered every young man he coached as one of his own. Johnny could be warming up for a game and see an opposing player doing something and would offer advice on how to improve. To him, it was always about preserving the game of baseball and instilling the love of the game in everyone he came in contact with.
Above all, Johnny loved his family. He found no greater joy than being with his boys, JJ and Blue and his grandchildren, Leah, Amber and Jordan. He was always their number one fan.
Johnny is preceded in death by his father, George, Sr.; mother, Winnie; father-in-law, Heard; mother-in-law, Rosaleen; sister-in-law, Ginger and sister-in-law, Kathy.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his most spoiled girl, Cilla; his son, JJ (Christy); his son, Blue (Ashley); his grandchildren Leah, Amber and Jordan and his brothers, George, Nathan and Timmy (Sue). Along with many nieces and nephews and countless lifelong friends and young men he coached.
