John R. Kozik passed away on June 8, 2011. He was born in Illinois where he lived until he joined the US Navy at 20 years of age. He began as a hospital Corpsman and retired as a U.S. Navy Commander with 28 years of service. He was commissioned an Ensign in the medical service Corps in 1962 after 10 years of enlisted service. He enjoyed his career which included tours at sea on one of the last heavy cruisers to service on destroyers as well as numerous tours of duty at shore stations both in the United States and overseas. He met and married his wife Marie in 1958. She was a devoted Navy wife who enjoyed traveling with her husband to various duty stations in the U.S. and abroad. Upon retiring in 1975 in Pensacola, John and Marie began a life which included spending as much time as possible boating and fishing the waters of Pensacola Bay and the Gulf. They were together for hours on the waters they both loved. He leaves behind his wife Marie, a son John and daughter-in-law Kathryn, daughter Teresa and son-in-law Craig and four precious grandchildren, Lauren Inman, Megan Inman, Kevin Kozik and Kara Kozik. Words cannot express the love he felt for these grandchildren. He also has three nephews and was preceded in death by his sister Dolores Beck. Visitation will be Monday, June 13, 2011 from 8:00 am till 8:30 am at St. Michaels Catholic Church. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 8: 30 am on June 13, 2011 at St. Michaels Catholic Church with burial at Barrancas National Cemetery following. Rev. Peter McLaughlin as celebrant.
