John Joseph Couture, our husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, friend, and buddy, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 64, on February 12, 2017. John has gone to be with his parents and siblings who have preceded him in death. He was born in Levis, Quebec, Canada on April 25, 1952 to Alphonse and Bernadette Couture. After joining the Navy in August, 1971, John met the love of his life, Helen Ann Weddeke. On a whim, he secured a job at McDonald’s just to admire his “Helen Ann”. Their marriage proved to be the beginning of a perfect example of how love should reflect in the light of our lives. John and Helen’s love has been something to respect and envy in the same moment.
After 23 years of service, John retired from the United States Navy as Master Chief. For years now, John has been a Project Manager at Mobile Aerospace Engineering at Berkley Field. He is survived by his wife Helen Couture, sons Scott Couture (Lizette), Robert Couture (Lennie), and Keith Couture. John considered his niece Mindy and her daughter Skyler, as his daughter and granddaughter. John’s youngest grandchildren, Dannica and Gage were the sparkle in his eye. John is also survived by 2 sisters and 2 brothers, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. Our “buddy” John, was loved by all and returned that compassion to each of us.

The following day Friday, February 17, 2017 Oak Lawn Funeral Home will be holding a funeral service from 10am to 11am. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 12pm, noon.
