He was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana to Jim and Florene Schofield. He left home in 1952 to join the US Air Force where he served honorably. In 1956, Jerry came to Florida were he met and married the love of his life Carol Ann Wright. They made their home in Crestview and were members of First Assembly of God church. Jerry retired from civil service in 1989. He played trumpet from a young age and, upon retirement., he began focusing on music and his love of the big band style. He joined several local bands, including his favorite, White Sands Dance Band in Fort Walton Beach. In 2017 Jerry and Carol moved to Pensacola, where their children reside. He continued playing trumpet until shortly before his death.
Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol Ann Schofield, parents, James and Florene Schofield, and his two brothers Don Lowe (Ann) and David Schofield (Betty).
He is survived by younger sister Sandra Schmitz (George), his son Michael Schofield (Cindy) and his daughter Shari Curtis (Michael) and grandchildren Savanna Jayde Curtis, Kelly Platt Gallia (Philip) and Ryan Platt.
A Visitation & Reception for Jerry will be held Monday, August 22, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola, FL 32506. A Funeral Service will follow from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm, with Graveside Service from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery.
