1925 – 2012
James L. Briley “Gentleman Jim”, 86, of Pensacola, went to Heaven’s gate, Saturday, May 19, 2012.
Mr. Briley was born December 21, 1925 in Jackson. On April 17, 1943, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served aboard the USS Lexington during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He retired from the Navy on August 26, 1966 after 23 years of service.
Mr. Briley was a faithful member of VFW Post #706, serving as Judge Advocate. He was also was a member of the American Legion Post #340.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Pat Merritt Briley; two daughters, Anita (Larry) Boone and Rita Hodge; one son, Johnny (Helen) Perry; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one great grandson; two stepsons and two stepdaughters-in-law.
Dad loved to Karaoke at the V.F.W. and Old Mr. B’s, singing the tunes of Hank Williams. He was loving, caring and dedicated to his family. He leaves many nephews and nieces in Jackson, Tennessee to carry on his memory.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Pastor Donald A. Petersen officiating.
Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
