Howard Patrick Brewer, Jr., age 94, died on Sunday, July 17, 2016 in Pensacola, Florida. Howard was born February 11, 1922 in Macon, Georgia to Howard Patrick Brewer, Sr. and Eula Cobb Brewer. He moved to Barth, Florida in 1931, graduated from Tate Agricultural High School in 1939 and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for two years before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1942.
He was a WWII veteran. After his honorable discharge, Howard worked for his outstanding new friend, John M. Boland, a seasoned real estate expert who had assisted his parents in acquiring their Pensacola home on East Strong Street. Mr. Boland and Howard Brewer, Sr. got together offering Howard employment as a rookie student in learning the real estate business. He considered it a blessing to be associated with Mr. Boland for 20 years before opening his own successful real estate business for another 20 years. Due to impaired nerve deafness, he was forced to sell his business and retire at age 63 in 1985.
He was married on July 8, 1945 to Thelma Pearl Bannister. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 8, 2010, 38 years after building their retirement home in Gulf Breeze in 1971.
Howard joined East Hill Baptist Church in 1946 and faithfully served many years as a deacon and Sunday School Department Superintendent as well as Training Union Director for four years. He loved his Lord and Savior and his Church with all his heart and soul until the day he was called home to be with Him for eternity. He always enjoyed a full and happy life. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all of his family and loved ones.
Mr. Brewer was a Master Mason with the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Florida for over 60 years, Lodge #42.
Howard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Thelma Pearl Bannister Brewer, his parents, Howard Patrick Brewer, Sr. and Eula Cobb Brewer, brothers Walter Cobb Brewer, James “Kenneth” Brewer, sister-in-law Christine W. Brewer, beloved niece Susan Lynn VanBrederode. He is survived by his sister Miriam JoAnn Brewer Sellers, her daughter Sherri Ann Sellers Eschbach, sister-in-law Myra Barlow Brewer, her children Patrick L. Brewer, Kimberly Brewer Shiver and Walter Dale Brewer and nephew Frederick Hood White, Jr. He also leaves behind many great nieces and nephews as well as beloved friends.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 1:00-2:00 p.m., immediately followed by a funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway has been entrusted with the arrangements.
