Herbert was married to Lou Ann Ellis for twenty-two years. His current passion was preaching teaching, and evangelizing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He enjoyed teaching Bible study at Bethel Baptist Church and was known for his delicious pancakes. Herbert enjoyed spending time with family and retelling stories about his children and grandchildren. He spent two years in the Army, stationed at Fort Custer, Michigan from 1950-1952. Shortly after his discharge, he moved to Pensacola, Florida with his family and began a thirty-three year career at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Rework Facility working on aircraft. He also enjoyed fishing and farming.
Herbert is survived by his wife Lou Ann Ellis and his daughter Elanor Amos (Art) to include four grandchildren; Lisa, Laura, and Nancy Kelson and Tammy Brown (Thomas). He also leaves behind two step-children, Cindy Watts (Clarence) and Steve Finney (Tina) and step-grandchildren Melissa Sinclair, Tawala Tipton, Jesse Watts, Susan Douglas, Cameron Finney, and Riley Finney. In addition to these, Herbert leaves behind one brother Charles Ellis (Claudia) and several great-grandchildren.
Herbert was a gentle soul who practiced compassion and love in this life, while helping many people over the years in need.

Visitation: Thursday, March 2, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Funeral service 10:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. Internment Barrancas Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. Reception follows 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 3097 Patricia Drive, Pensacola, Florida. Pastor Wayne Cooper, officiating.
