1953-2014
Greg Winter, age 60, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Baptist Critical Care due to a car accident on July 7, 2014.
Greg was born in Pensacola, Florida. He was a registered land surveyor and started his career with engineering service staking oil wells and pipe lines. He later had his own company, Gregory D. Winter & Associates, where he continued to do oil field work and also did power line survey work. Later in his career he did residential and commercial survey work.
Greg loved Pensacola and its waterways. At a young age he had a small boat where he and his dog would paddle in the inter-coastal water way at Inerarity Point near Perdido. That love of boats and being outdoors was always in his blood. He loved traveling with his wife to the Virgin Islands, Barbados, Hawaii, Bermuda and other destinations. In later life he enjoyed going in his motor home and staying in all the beautiful places in Florida and the Smokey Mountains. He was a loving friend to all that knew him. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed good food and visiting with friends and neighbors.
He always had a kind heart where animals were concerned. He would rescue dogs, turtles crossing the road, a pelican in distress that swallowed too large of a fish, a bird who had a hard time building a nest, which he wired a wicker basket in a tree for. He loved his Bassett Hounds, Breezer and Woody, they would follow him anywhere he went and they loved road trips with "their dad." Greg was truly a wonderful person, a big guy, but gentle in spirit.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother and father, Frank & Edith Winter; his father and mother-in-law, Mary & William Williams and his brother-in-law, Jim Williams.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Beth Winter; his beloved Basset Hounds, Breezer and Woody; his sister, Paulette (Henry) Burton; his nephew Jeff (Marta) Williams; a great niece Shyla Williams; niece Kendall Burton & (Steven ); great niece, Taylor; nephew, Duncan (Emily) Williams; nephew, Russell Burton; sister-in-law, Marti (Wayne) McCrae; an aunt, Jo Ann Proescholdt; and many cousins and wonderful friends.
