Gloria Saenz was 91 when she passed into glory, peacefully and without pain. She was a faithful member of Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church for most of the past 60 years, as well as a longtime member of the MGUMC choir, the United Methodist Women and the New Life Sunday School class.
She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Matilde and Maria Gonzalez, the second of their four daughters. Gloria’s devotion to family meant that after her children were grown, she spent 10 years caring for her mother, who was born in 1899 and lived to be almost 98. Four generations of family members, at one time or another, lived in the Forte Estates house that she called home for 36 years.
Gloria is survived by her three eldest children and their spouses: RD Saenz (Patricia) of Clanton, Ala.; Linda Saenz Stump (Harry) of Pensacola; Joyce Saenz Harris (Stephen) of Dallas, Texas; and by her son-in-law, James Ondrusek of Richardson, Texas. She also is survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as by her younger sisters, Minerva Stone of Torrance, Calif., and Marie Reyes of Montgomery, Texas; her sisters-in-law, Elsa Lopez and Bernice Saenz, and brother-in-law Emilio Saenz, all of Corpus Christi; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her elder sister, Lidia Cortez; her beloved husband of 56 years, Raul; her youngest daughter, Lydia Saenz Ondrusek; and her younger son, David Alan Saenz.
Gloria never lost faith that one day she would rejoin all her loved ones who preceded her into heaven. She believed deeply; she loved deeply. So we know that today she is with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Her family wishes to thank her caregivers at Homestead Village for all the many kindnesses shown to Gloria while she was a resident there.
