Frederick Chester McFarland, age 72, passed away May 14, 2018 surrounded by his family after a brief stay at Baptist Hospital. Mr. McFarland was born in Damariscotta, Maine and attended Waldoboro High School, and Gorham State Teachers College. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Lexington and at Whiting Field as an Air Traffic Controller.
After serving his country, he graduated from the University of South Alabama with a degree in nursing to begin his second career in surgical nursing. Upon retiring, he enjoyed traveling, and was an avid reader. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he enjoyed his position as an elder and member of the choir where he shared his talent as a violinist.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan Sparks McFarland, his daughter, Jennifer Lee Postlewaite, and two sons, Christopher Scott McFarland and Nathan Allan McFarland, and four grandchildren, Mary Katherine Postlewaite, Christopher Jackson McFarland, Katelyn Jordan McFarland and Nathan Hajime McFarland.
Visitation will begin at 11 am Friday May 18, 2018 followed by a Memorial Service at 12 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 6601 North Ninth Ave., Pensacola.
