Ester Lee (Yow) Johnson, age 93, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Feb. 13, 2018.
She was born June 18, 1924, in Mobile, AL.
Ester was a member of Lillian Fellowship Church, Lillian, Alabama, a Godly loving family woman, never met a stranger, and loved by all. She was a church nursery worker of First Baptist Church of Lillian, Alabama and received Service Award for over 36 years in August 2002; and In Honor and Loving Appreciation Award for Ministry to Nursery at First Baptist Church of Lillian in May 2005. She was also a nursery worker at Brentwood Methodist Church and Myrtle Grove Methodist Church. She was a lifetime worker to Save Perdido Bay, receiving Pro Earth Times Environmental Award 1991 and Recognition and Appreciation Award for her years of dedication to preserving the Environment of the Perdido River Basin by Perdido Bay Environmental Association, Inc. in 1993.
She is survived by her sister, Ruby (Royce) Lynch of Flatrock, AL. and her sons William (Susanne) Johnson of Titusville, FL; Chris (Kelley) Johnson of Daphne, AL; and daughter, Linda Sue (John) Thayer, of Cantonment, FL; six grandchildren: Steven, Matthew, Jacob and Joshua Johnson, Jennifer (Thayer) (Jeb) Balentine and Michelle Thayer; and six great grandchildren: Lilliana and Lucas Johnson, Jaxon and Jordyn Balentine and Natalie and Kenzie Rodriguez.
Preceding her in death are her husband of 58 years, Welton Christopher Johnson; her parents, Willie W. Yow Sr. and Ruby Yow of Mobile, AL; and 3 brothers; Willie W. Yow Jr. , Clarence Yow, Jake Yow; and 2 sisters; Elise Few, and Peggy Reynolds.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. The procession will leave Eastern Gate at 9:00 a.m. to Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station, Pensacola for the 10:00 interment. Pallbearers will be William Johnson, Chris Johnson, John Thayer, Jacob Johnson, Joshua Johnson and Steven Johnson. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.easterngatememorial.com.
