Our Lord called Emily Ann Whitely home on January 2, 2016. She was born in Chicago, IL on May 29, 1930. At the age of three her family moved to a farm in Sycamore, IL and in 1944 at the age 14 her family relocated to Elberta, AL. She graduated from Foley High School and went into Nurses training. She was employed at the Old Navy Hospital and also worked for the FBI in Washington, DC. She retired from NAMI at Naval Air Station, Pensacola. She met her husband Jim while working at the Navy Hospital, and they were married in 1952. After 23 years of military service with the Navy her husband retired in California and they moved home to Pensacola, FL.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Emily Pfaff of Elberta, AL, by her husband James who passed in 2003, and her son James passing in 2006. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Richardson (Robert), her son John Whitely, daughter-in law Marian Whitely Phillips, sister Joan Merchant, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. They were all very precious to her.
We want to thank the church family at West Pensacola Baptist Church, the Ladies 3 Sunday School class, and the staff at Haven of Our Lady of Peace for all that you have done, you were very special to our Mom.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 noon Friday, January 8 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Her final resting place will be at Barrancas National Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be the Ladies 3 Sunday School class. Pall Bearers will be John Whitely, Robert Richardson, Aaron Whitely, Kenneth Hancock, Andrew Schaff, and Carson Schaff.
