Ma grew up in Mobile, Alabama where she met the love of her life, David Read “Pop” Satterwhite. They married in 1954 and moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1955. They had two children, David and Preston.
After moving to Pensacola, Ma was a homemaker until she decided to turn her love of shopping into a career. She worked in loss prevention at Gayfers for 20 years until she retired. Pop often said that Ma brought home more outfits than paychecks. She had a passion for shopping, cooking and spending time with friends and family. Her chicken and dumplings and cornbread are legendary. Ma was also a huge Elvis Presley fan as well as a great dancer. She was known to win a few dance competitions.
Ma was adored by everyone that knew her including her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her classic beauty style was one of a kind. She called those she loved, “suge”, “bud”, and “babe”. Her phrases and memories will be cherished forever by all.
Ma is survived by her children, David and Preston; daughters-in-law, Kathy and Sonia; grandchildren and their families, David A. and Miranda, Ryan and Kristi, Brandon, Preston H. and Kellea, Stacy and Chris, and Amanda and Dalton; great grandchildren, Tori, Bella, Nolan, Read, Palmer, Tanner, Evelyn, Ensley, Payten, Camden and Cooper; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
