Mrs. Dorothy Williams, 89, died Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was born July 7, 1928 in Pensacola FL, the eldest child of Coker Jenkins and Mary Adkinson Clark.
Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Pensacola High School and Sacred Heart Nursing School. Employed as a Registered Nurse with Escambia General Hospital of Pensacola, she specialized in infant care. She married Alton Wayne Williams in 1952 and remained a devoted wife for 55 years until his death in 2009. Mrs. Williams, along with her husband Wayne, was a charter member of Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Williams was a talented seamstress who took great pride in creating dresses for herself and her daughters, especially Easter dresses, which were worn to church. In later years she devoted her sewing skills to the creation of beautiful embroidery projects, primarily samplers with floral designs. She was a member of the African Violet Society in the 1980s and was awarded various prizes for originality. She was a member of the Quilting Guild where she worked on many group projects and was awarded various prizes for her quilts. She enjoyed baking, especially Christmas cookies for family and friends, and gardening at home.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Nell and David Cassady of Pensacola; Faye and Thomas Bott of Baton Rouge; Anne and Nate Leyland of Raleigh; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Her surviving siblings include Catherine Macbeth of Dahlonega, Georgia; Richard Clark and wife Connie of Pensacola; Linda Clark and husband Dan of Quincy, Florida; and Janet Clark and husband Eddie of New York City. She was preceded in death by brother Jim Clark.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home until the service begins in the chapel at 2:00 pm. Burial to follow at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
