Don is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Scott Akers and Corbin White Akers and his sisters Norma Litchey and Mary Frances Cox.
He leaves behind sisters Deloris Akers Edmonson (Jim), Sally Akers Allen, and Brenda Akers Hutzler (Charles). He leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 6 great grand children and many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Beasley Akers and three children, Billy Wayne Akers (Lisa), Ric Allen Akers (Jen) and Shari Akers Oliver (Mike).
He Retired from the military in 1971 with 4 years in Navy and 16 years in the Air Force.
He pastored and evangelized in the Lords ministry for 42 years. He was affiliated with Liberty church Pensacola in 1974 then went to pastor a liberty church in Denton, Texas and Cartersville, Ga and Huntsville, AL. He then interned helping small churches in Texas, Alabama, Virginia and Georgia. He and Barbara are presently members of New Testament Fellowship Church. He also served as chaplain of South Baldwin County Chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association.
Before going to Liberty he began a para ministry with hippies in Albertville, Al for 3 years with over 250 young people coming to know Jesus as their Savior.
He loved his Jesus and to serve Him was his life’s desire and he loved seeing people come to know his Jesus. He lived his remaining life in Elberta, AL until his passing.
