David was born in Decatur Georgia November 29, 1935. In 1948 the family moved to Pensacola and opened Cooling and Heating Supplies the first HVACR wholesale business in the area. David worked for the family business in the summers and attended Pensacola High School graduating in 1954. He graduated from the Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958. He served as a young officer in the USMC until June 1959. He served two years in the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey through July 1961. He loved his work on the water with USC&GS aboard the USS Sosbee and was stationed in Ft. Meyers, FL. After his military service, he came home to Pensacola to manage Cooling and Heating Supplies for the next fifty years until he closed the business in 2010.
David was an active member with the Downtown Rotary Club of Pensacola, was a Paul Harris Fellow and immensely proud of his perfect attendance record for 50 years until his health required him to retire from Rotary in 2020.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church Parish, Pensacola Country Club, and Pensacola Yacht Club. David taught refrigeration and air conditioning and was supportive of the George Stone Technical College. He was an active member of several industry, dance, and social organizations, and was a Fiesta Court member.
Known as a quiet, polite, and nice man his passions were tennis and boating. He played tennis for decades at PCC and the “Over the Hill” league at Roger Scott until he was 80. During his lifetime he owned dozens of powerboats. He and his best friend Gene Killinger enjoyed many boat tours of the United States coastal waterways and completed the “Great Loop” traveling the entire intracoastal gulf, eastern US and great lakes coastwise including the Mississippi river.
He is predeceased by his father DFS Galloway Jr., his mother Lucille Williams Galloway, his sister Lucille May Galloway Wilson, and niece Lucille Lee Wilson Bosarge.
David is survived by his wife Rosalee “Tess” James; two children DFS Galloway IV (Dottie) and John Ashton Galloway (Kim); three grandchildren Hannah Rose, Grace Lauren, and Ashton Matthew Galloway of Clearwater FL; and nephew David M. Wilson of Birmingham, AL.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at the Blake at Pensacola, sitters at Home Helpers Home Care, and the nurses at Covenant Care Hospice for their care of David during his final illness.
