Dan was an only child and traveled with his parents for his father's job as a crane operator while he grew up. Dan himself worked a lengthy career as a crane operator. He began his career as a crane operator at the age of 17 and was passionate about it for almost 50 years.
Dan was actively involved in church and anything that involved his family
Dan loved to laugh and make other people laugh, often preferring to make himself the butt of the joke. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Some of his favorite times were Sunday morning breakfasts for his family with Jimmy Buffett, or jazz music, in the background. Christmas was his “Super Bowl". During the holidays he could be seen wearing a Grinch costume or a jacket that lit up, with a Santa hat. He was a lover of movies and quoted movie lines often in many different life situations. He loved scuba diving, lobster diving, boats, motorcycles, ("scooter" as he called it) and muscle cars. He was a guy who was big in stature with a kind, tender, and gentle heart. He loved helping people and was generous in heart and all that he did. It was this same gentleness after Hurricane Ivan that led Dan to play Santa for children who had lost everything in the disaster. He continued doing this for several years and was very proud of having the opportunity to minister to those who were hurting. He was involved with the men’s prison ministry and was humbled, again, to serve hurting people.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Betty Reilly Mickow and Delbert Henry Mickow.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Mickow of Gulf Breeze, Florida, children, Clint Mickow (Ann) of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Brian Mickow of Pensacola Beach, Florida, and Katelyn Mickow of Pensacola, Florida, grandchildren, Rachel (Richard) Pino, Emily Mickow, Ashley Mickow, Paige Mickow, Ryan Mickow and Walter Endres and great grandchild, Drew Pino.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in honor of Dan to St Jude Children's Hospital.
