2021. She was born on June 23, 1927, in Opp, Alabama to parents Talmadge and
Gertrude Gooden.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws J.T. and Annie Merle Dyess of Opp; her husband James F. Dyess; her sister Lynda King and brother Bobby Gooden; sisters-in-law Juanita Gooden, Kate
Hunt, Bettye Reynolds, and Wynene, Gail and Lee Ellen Dyess; brothers-in-law Joe Dyess, Billy Ray Williams, Curtis Hunt, and Waylon King; and infant great-grandson Easton Whittaker.
Cora lived in Pensacola since 1963 and retired from J.C. Penney's in 1992. She was a member of McIlwain Presbyterian Church and loved her church family and friends.
She is survived by daughters Loretta (dale) Jacobsen of Lenoir City, Tennessee and
Brenda (stan) Whittaker of Bristol, Florida; sister Peggy Williams of Kinston,
Alabama; sister-in-law Sue Dyess of Alabaster, Alabama; brothers-in-law Charles
(Laurette) Dyess of Opp, Robert Dyess of Tuscaloosa, and Jerry (Marie)
Reynolds of Andalusia; grandchildren tom (Natalya) daniel of Nashville,
Tennessee, Alex (Isabel) harris of Quincy, Florida, Emily (Dillon) Fowler of
Blountstown, Florida and Logan Whittaker of Bristol, Florida; five great-grandchildren and numerous extended family.
Services will be held at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel & Memorial Park on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 2 p.m.
Cora will be buried beside her husband at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel & Memorial Park at 3351 Scenic Highway 90E, Pensacola.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to Sacred Heart Children's Hospital or Covenant Care Hospice of Pensacola.
