Charles William Jones Sr., 90, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 20, 2019. His life reflected his gentle soul and he was a faithful servant of God. He was a member of the Old West Hill Church of Christ that later became Gateway Church of Christ.
Charles was born in Evergreen, Alabama on February 19, 1929 to Charles Oris Jones and Hattie Louise Perkins Jones. Charles graduated from T. R. Miller High School in Brewton, Alabama and attended Auburn University. He was an avid Auburn football fan and loved to attend games at Auburn.
Charles served three years in the U S Army as a paratrooper. He worked as a barber in Brewton, AL and Auburn, AL prior to moving to Pensacola where he opened Jones Barber Shop in 1964. He worked as a barber for over 60 years before retiring. He was a member of the Masons for 65 years. In retirement, he loved volunteering at the Andrews Institute for 10 years with Baptist Hospital.
Charles was preceded by his wife of 47 years, Jean Carolyn Cobb Jones. Together they had three sons. After her passing, he married June Wilson Jones and they were blessed to share 19 years together. She along with her four children survived him.
Charles is also survived by his three sons: Charles William (Bill) Jones, Jr. (Pam), Kenneth Lee Jones, (Tilani) Michael Keith Jones (Laneisa); five grandchildren: Charles Eric Jones, Grayson Levi Jones, McKenzie Alyssa Jones, Asia Jones, Kian Lee Jones and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held on Sunday, June 23 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel at 3351 Scenic Hwy, Pensacola, Florida with Harold Mobley officiating. The visitation is scheduled at 1:00 pm and the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Charles will be laid to rest in the Mausoleum at Bayview Memorial Park after the services. Pallbearers: Terry Beaver, Al Manning, Ron Putnal, Charles Eric Jones, Kurtis Wilson, and Wallace Wilson, and honorary pallbearer: Chris Alphin and the Masons.
