Betty Anne McMillan, 89, went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2024, at her home in Pensacola, Florida. Betty Anne was born in Belzoni, Mississippi in 1935, in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. She grew up surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. She never forgot her roots, and if you talked to her for more than 5 minutes you would know that too. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Eckford Jones and Grace Walker Jones as well as her brother, James Eckford Jones Jr. and her husband, William Cuyler McMillan.
Betty Anne graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. She taught Physical Education in Biloxi, Mississippi where she met her future husband, William Cuyler McMillan, a young Air Force Lieutenant. They had the opportunity to live in many wonderful places, White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico being one of their favorites. They were happily married for 49 years, until his death in 2007. They loved and supported each other always and set a beautiful example of marriage for their children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Kyle McMillan Shell (Stephen Brooks Shell), and their children Jon Shell (Jordan), Jeff Shell, and Caroline Shell (soon to be married to Adrean Brings Him Back), and her son, Gavin McMillan (Elly), and his son, Skyler. She has 2 great grandchildren, Forrest and Delaney Shell. She is also survived by her niece, Suzanne Wesley, and her nephew, Jay Jones.
Betty Anne’s faith in Jesus was very important to her. In lieu of flowers, donations to Royal Family Kids (a ministry to foster children) at First Baptist Church Pensacola, 500 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501, would be appreciated.
Graveside services will be at Barrancas National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 20th at 10:00. The funeral procession will meet at the lower lot of First Baptist Church Pensacola at 9:00. We will depart for the cemetery at 9:15.
