Bernita “B” Deloris Shively, 85, devoted wife, unforgettable mother, & best friend to many, passed away at Covenant Hospice West Florida Hospital on Thursday, 27 March, 2014. Born in Monroe County, Alabama, her parents of Alva Alice and Howard Covan. “B” was Valedictorian of her 1946 Century High School graduating class. She went on to accomplish many pioneering ‘firsts’, becoming one of the first women in the Women’s Air Force (WAFs) in Oct ’48 and one of the first women Air Force Air Traffic Controllers. She also became one of the first female insurance agents with Fisher-Brown Insurance. “B’ served as Vice President of Intown Business Women’s Club for two years in Pensacola, where she has resided since 1972.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Nelson LaRue Shively; daughters Dr. Storne Shively and Sondra Shively Singleton; grandchildren Sterling and Sonnet.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola.
