Arthur Thomas Houghton, Jr., 71 was born December 11, 1948, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Arthur Thomas Houghton, Sr. and Pearl Mae Taylor. He was called home July 31, 2020 in Pensacola, Florida to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Arthur provided for his family through the years working for Smith’s Sunbeam Bakery, as management in shipping and transportation. He served this grateful nation by enlisting within the U.S. Army National Guard. Arthur was a member of Revelation Life Church of God where he enjoyed visiting and worship with his church family.
On June 21, 1968, Arthur married his beloved wife Sheila Lynn Grammer (Houghton). He received an Associate’s degree from Alexander City Junior College on June 7, 1969. Arthur went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration from Auburn University on June 19, 1971.
He completed three marathons and countless other foot races. Arthur was a member of the CB club in Prattville, Alabama with the handle “Hootowl”. He was a member of Prattville “Jaycees”. Arthur was an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Greeter, catcher on his church softball team, and #1 Grill Master of Revelation Life Church in Pensacola.
He has hiked the Great Smoky Mountains, was a master joke teller and comedian. Arthur enjoyed photography and was considered a puzzle master. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, and paw paw.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Helen Ozment and Etta Findley.
Left behind to cherish Arthur’s wonderful memories will be his wife, Sheila; one son, Patrick Thomas Houghton and wife Holly Lynn; one daughter, Taushi Kay Houghton Shelby and husband Leslie James Sr., eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many extended family members and a number of amazing friends.
