Friends and Family are invited to a memorial service at Penn Yan United Methodist Church, Tuesday December 26th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers you may consider donations to Penn Yan United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 242, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Helen was born May 31, 1925 in Clinton, Michigan, to Clyde and Marjorie (Mensing) Miller. She spent most of her adult life in Toledo, Ohio, where she worked as a bookkeeper for various companies. She married Carlton (Steve) Stevens in 1965, and they enjoyed forty-one years together. While members of Valleywood Golf Club, they shared their passion for golf and made many lifelong friends on the golf course. After the death of her husband in 2006, Helen moved to Penn Yan, to be near her son’s family. Helen was an excellent pianist and an avid bridge player, continuing both activities late into her life. She also greatly loved playing card games with her grandchildren, keeping her yard and gardens in perfect condition and baking tons of cookies, especially at Christmas time for all of her family and friends. Helen volunteered in several organizations and was a long time member of the United Methodist Church, both in Toledo and Penn Yan.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Carlton Stevens and brother, Warren Miller. She is survived by her brother, Ronald Miller (Pat) of West Bend, WI, son Jerry Snyder (Linda) of Penn Yan, NY and grandchildren Philip Snyder (Kelly) of Saranac Lake, NY; Robin Burton (Eric) of Jacksonville, FL; Adrian Phillips (Chris) of San Antonio, TX and four great grandchildren; Annabelle and Allison Snyder, Maddox and Gavin Phillips. Helen is also survived by step children, Judy (David) Walrod of Toledo, OH and Ron (Linda) Stevens of Inman, SC, as well as their children and grandchildren.
Thank you to all of the staff in Unit 1 of The Homestead for lovingly seeing to her care for the last few years. Arrangements are in the care of Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. www.townsendwoodfuneralchapel.com. Helen’s final resting place is Toledo Memorial Park and Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.
