Mary Maxey Preston Sullivan, a resident of Morningside in Pell City, Alabama died Wednesday, July 19, 2023. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 3rd, 1935 to Anna Maxey Preston and Percy D. Preston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. D. Sullivan; her parents; and three brothers, Percy D. Preston Jr., Benton Preston, and Prince Preston.
Schooling for Mary began at Powell School in Birmingham and continued in Pell City, graduating in 1953. She also attended Jeff State and Gadsden State.
After working for the Farm Service Agency, USDA, in St. Clair, Etowah, and Franklin counties, Mary retired with forty-three years of service. During that time, she was a charter member of ALASCOE, the employee association, and was active in various capacities: editor of the employee newsletter, treasurer, secretary, vice-president, president, and delegate to several national association conventions.
Following her retirement from the USDA, she worked as a Realtor for local real estate companies for ten years.
Mary was a member of the Pell City First Baptist Church. She acknowledged that God had blessed her life from the beginning with loving parents and brothers. He added many dear and thoughtful friends that influenced her life.
At Mary’s request, there will be no memorial service.
