Helen Marie Garrett

PELL CITY – February 11, 1934 – June 19, 2015---Helen Marie Garrett, age 81, was a Christian who had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She was a woman of great faith, who showed love and mercy to all she met. She was devoted to God and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Stemley Baptist Church for the past three years. She was a member of the choir, taught Bible study and enjoyed two mission trips to New York, a mission trip to Kentucky and a mission trip to Mobile, Alabama. She said she enjoyed every minute of each one.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Alonzo Welch and Gertie Oressie Smith Welch; her sisters, Georgie Polk, Christine Sweatt, Elsie Sweatt; and her brother, Jimmy Welch.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jerry W. Garrett, Sr.; sons, Jerry W. Garrett, Jr. (Debbie) of Pell City, David W. Garrett (Violet) of Pell City, Donald W. Garrett (Renee) of Trussville; daughter, Karen Williams (Mark) of Birmingham; brother, Henry “Buddy” Welch (Elzie); grandchildren, Jason (Amy), Rachel (Josh), Joshua, Matt, Brittney, Hannah and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Claire, McKenzie, Bentley, Ariel, Audrey, Gabe; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Monday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Boykin Truitt Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
